Frequently Asked Questions
Questions, answered honestly.
Everything you might want to know before your first session — in my own words.
How often should I come in, and how many sessions will I need?
Everyone's different, so there's no single number. But if you're coming to me with a specific problem, most people work with me weekly for about four to six weeks — long enough to reach a baseline — and then we space out to maintenance.
You're never locked in. You can come once a month and I'll give you my best every time; that will likely hold you about where you are, even if it won't push things forward the way weekly work does.
How long is a session, and what does it cost?
Sessions run from 60 to 120 minutes, and every one of those minutes is table time. The clock is your time on the table, as long as you're on the table when your appointment starts.
| 60 minutes | $170 |
| 75 minutes | $185 |
| 90 minutes | $200 |
| 120 minutes | $275 |
| Couples Workshop · 3 hours | $400 |
| Couples Refresher · 90 minutes | $200 |
What happens at a first visit?
First, you talk and I listen. You tell me what's going on and what your goals are, and I take what I know about the body in general and apply it to what you know about your body specifically.
I identify the areas I suspect need focused work, and then we do a full-body massage that focuses on your goals along with anything else I find along the way. A first visit is a fact-finding mission — we build your treatment plan off of what it turns up.
What should I wear, and what about draping?
Undress to your level of comfort — that's always your choice, and you're properly draped the whole time, with only the area I'm actively working on uncovered. Most clients choose to undress completely or down to their underwear; some keep more on, and I'll work with whatever you choose.
The one honest thing I'll tell you: I work directly on the skin, so the more clothing that stays on, the more it limits the kind of work I can do in those areas. Undress to where you feel at ease — just know that what you keep on shapes what I'm able to give you.
Will it hurt? Is the work intense?
Deep tissue doesn't mean deep pressure — those two get confused all the time. The work is usually intense, at least in part: when I'm moving through a taut band or a tight area, you'll feel it, and there's a productive edge to that.
But intensity isn't the same as pain, and more pressure isn't the goal — the goal is the right pressure for the tissue in front of me. I check in as we go, and I want you to tell me when something's too much. You should leave feeling worked on, not worked over.
More on this in Deep tissue doesn't mean deep pressure.
How do I book, and what are your hours?
I work Sunday through Wednesday, noon to seven. You can book any time through Booksy.
If you need an after-hours appointment, text me and ask — I'll let you know if I can make it work.
Where are you located, and how do I get in?
I'm at 224 Clarendon Street, Suite 51, in Boston's Back Bay, up on the fifth floor. The building is locked after 6 PM, so if your appointment runs later, just ring the buzzer and I'll let you in.
If you have any mobility issues and need a hand getting in, text me ahead and I'll make sure you're looked after.
Back Bay is served by the Copley and Back Bay T stations, and there's metered street parking and a few nearby garages if you're driving.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations require 48 hours notice for individual appointments. Couples workshops require 7 days notice plus a 50% deposit at booking. Less notice will result in a charge for the full session.
Rescheduling is allowed once with at least 48 hours notice — and moving or canceling a rescheduled appointment is treated as a late cancellation and charged in full, regardless of notice given.
The full details live on the booking policies page.
I have a serious condition or recent surgery — is there anything I should do before booking?
If you're coming in for something serious, or you've recently had surgery or a procedure, tell me before your appointment — the more I know ahead of time, the better I can prepare to meet you where you are and do the work safely.
For anything post-surgical, please make sure your care team has lifted all restrictions before you come in. Massage isn't a substitute for medical care, so decisions about what's safe for you belong with your physician, PT, or care team.
How do I know if this is the right fit for me?
My work is therapeutic, focused, and collaborative. When you come in, you're an active participant — I'm asking you to pay attention, tell me what you feel, and notice what's changing, and I'm working with purpose toward clinical goals I've built from what I see in your body.
If what you're looking for is a quiet hour to drift off and be worked on gently, that's a real need, but it's not what I specialize in, and there are wonderful therapists in Boston who do that beautifully. If you want someone who takes your body seriously and works on the actual problem, that's the practice. I'd rather tell you honestly up front than have either of us end up in a session that isn't what you were looking for.
I wrote more about this in This might not be the right fit.
Do you offer couples massage?
Yes. The 3-hour Couples Workshop ($400) is a private, hands-on experience where you and your partner learn to give and receive a basic full-body massage — simple, effective techniques anyone can master, even if you've never had a massage. It's a favorite for date night, an anniversary, or just a different kind of afternoon together.
The 90-minute Couples Refresher ($200) is a follow-up for couples who've already taken the workshop: a brush-up on the basics, personalized feedback, and a few new techniques. The Refresher's only prerequisite is the 3-hour workshop.
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes. Gift certificates are available in any amount, never expire, and are delivered instantly by email — no shipping, no waiting. The recipient gets a personalized message from you along with booking instructions, then books directly through Booksy at the time that works best for them.
They're a thoughtful gift for someone living with chronic pain, training hard, or simply carrying too much tension. Send a gift certificate →
